First use HillSearch, the library's catalog, to find out if the library owns the book. If you find a record for the book in Hillsearch, you then need to check the record for three pieces of information in order to find the book on the shelf: "Location", "Call No.", and "Status".

Under "Location" it will usually say "Main Stacks". Click that link for a listing of locations for books and other items. Under "Call No." will be a string of letters and numbers that tells us exactly where the book belongs, relative to other books in the same location. Under "Status" you will see whether or not the book is "Available" (which means on the shelf, in its' location, arranged in order by its call no.), or has some other status. For instance, if the book has already been checked out, the due date will be displayed.

If you cannot find the book, please speak with a Library staff member.
